Don't Open The Window Much.
If you are parked and sitting in your vehicle alone (especially women) and somebody approaches your vehicle to speak with you do two things before they're near you.
The first is to make sure that all your doors are locked. Then direct them to the passenger side of the car where you can keep the person some distance from your face. Then make sure the window is opened just enough to speak to them -- not wide open.
Remember you are a sitting duck in your car. It is easy for somebody to try and stab you or grab you by the throat and you're in a very awkward position to respond quickly to any attack. So open the windows just a little. Also. start and keep your car idling when speaking to the stranger -- with the car in gear and your foot on the brake in case you have to leave quickly.

What Dangers Surround You?
The massive explosion and fire storm which destroyed a Prince George B.C. mills two days ago is a tragic warning of the need to be constantly monitoring our surroundings -- whether you are working in such a complex -- your own home.
The latest word about the possible causes this fire which killed two workers so far is that it could have been caused by too much dust -- and bad housekeeping in the mill.
What the complete investigation will reveal remains to be seen but the mill fire, the second in B.C. in three months, is a reminder that we are constantly surrounded by dangerous environments.
Two other examples of this recently are two families we know were the victims of gas leaks in their homes. In one case it appears that the gas leak caused or contributed to the death of one family member the crippling of another. And in yet another instance family members became very ill before the gas leak was detected.
So -- without becoming paranoid -- it is a good idea to be vigilant for possible assailants around you in the form of both other persons as well thins like natural gas, carbon dioxide, and radon leaks.
More information on this topic can be found either on the Google News Web site, of The Toronto Star, April 25, 2012 which has an excellent picture of the widespread fire destruction. Click on www.torontostarnews.com

Protecting Yourself from Home Invasions
Home invasions are not the most common type of crime but when somebody strikes it can have traumatic --even tragic consequences.
Some things you can do to ward of such attackers or at least be more prepared to defend yourself include:
Some things you can do to ward of such attackers or at least be more prepared to defend yourself include:
- Plant thorny security bushes around ground floor windows. Most of these can add to the attractive landscaping around your home and small birds often seek shelter in such plants.
- Hand a bell or chimes on the door that will alert you to anyone trying to sneak up on you.
- Create a safe room you and other can retreat to in dangerous situations.
- Something to defend yourself. This can be stored -- along with a good flashlight in the safe room -- which should have a secure door with a lock.
Having something to defend yourself is a crucial consideration. You have to know the local laws about what you can use to defend yourself. Hand-guns in Canada for instance, are -- in most situations strictly prohibited for private citizens.
There are, however, other things you might be able to use -- such a hand-held fire extinguisher or pulsating flashlight which you could use to blind somebody trying to attack you.
Check with your local police department first before planning to use anything though to make sure that using things like a fire extinguisher wouldn't make you a criminal as well.
In Canada you are going to have to prove that you had no other alternative than to use force; that you started at no more force than necessary to protect yourself; and that you never exceeded what was necessary. You are accountable under law for the results of all of your actions.

Cameras to Protect Your Family and Property
Any type of home invasion -- at night -- or sometimes -- even in the middle of the night can be devastating -- or tragic.
Now there are two cameras on the market to fight this and other emergencies around your home. One, offered by one of the large business and residential alarm and security camera companies here in Vancouver is worth looking into. This camera simply clamps on the top of your front, or any other exterior door, and relays pictures of visitors or intruders to the security company and if you want to you through your cell phone.
It gives you the ability to answer your door through your smart phone and either intercept intruders and other undesirables or give instructions to delivery and other legitimate callers.
The other, offered by a well-known electronics company, is a puck sized surveillance camera that can be mounted just about anywhere. It allows you to monitor activity with the camera's vision across your through WiFi connection or on the other side on the continent for a cell phone app.
This last one was advertised in the February edition of Popular Science and was featured in the January Electronics Show produced by CES
The camera that clamps on your door was especially appealing because of the ease of installation and ability to monitor whoever is around your house in an age when many persons --even couriers and other uniformed individuals -- are not always who they claim to be.

Hum to Protect Your Energy Levels.
Feeling sluggish and run down? Here's an interesting idea on non-medical or drug way to build those energy levels according to Dr. Oz on his daily television show.
That is to hum -- that's right -hum for a few seconds while taping your thyroid which is situated right in the center of your collar bone just below that little notch in the bone you can feel with your fingers.
He says the suggestion which comes from naturophatic practitioner says it might work for you. I've actually heard of this idea before from complementary health care practitioner here in Vancouver BC who specializes in bio-kinesiology - a practitioner who follows the principles of body mechancis and anatomy in his treatments.
Check with your local complementary health care practitioner and medical doctor for more details. (Just remember that many medical doctors might not have a keen appreciation for this type of therapy.), so make sure you speak with both types of doctors if you haves any concerns.

Useless Medicine?
If you're one of the million In Norther America -- and around the world trying to fight high blood pressure with pharmaceutical medication you might want to check on the warning that came out through the Early to Rise Web sit this morning.
According to one of their sponsors much -- not all -- of the high blood pressure medication high blood pressure victims are swallowing might not be preventing heart attacks and lengthening their lives at all.
You want to tread with allegations such as these -- but definitely worth checking out their message. Early to Rise is a very reputable organization which can be found online at: www.earlytorise.com.
When it comes to any type of pharmaceutical medication the other thing I would keep in mind is that you might to be able to escape all or some of the side effects if you have the prescription compounded into a naturopathic medication.

Remember You Are The Architect!
"Remember you are the architect of your life and future!"
This was the reminder by a Dr. Nedd here in Vancouver, BC during one of his television broadcasts about wellness recently . And it is true. Whatever has happened to you in the past remember that you alone are the architect of your future.
