Yes. They are around!. We got a wake up call this morning after a long hiatus from having to monitor our car at night when it is parked outside. Somebody broke into our van, but apparently were interrupted before they could destroy or steal anything as my son found the door left open early this morning.
Fortunate as I did have an expensive camera tripod and other equipment in the vehicle, but the incident was a reminder that with the economy going down the tube such incidents will likely escalate -- possibly with a camera system to monitor the outside of the house.
That is something you might want to consider if you live in an area prone to break-ins or you perhaps have older relatives still living alone in their homes.
Camera systems that could be installed around front and back doorways to deter things like home invasions -- or at least aid in the arrest of home invaders who like to target elderly person who cannot defend themselves could be another good home investment.
Large cities like Vancouver, BC have a number of stores that specialize in selling such types of camera systems that can be either monitored from the building where they are installed or remotely from another location.
Now, before bad weather sets it, would be a good time to install such a system around your parents' or your own home.
Such systems are not hard to find in stores specializing in surveillance equipment or even stores like Home Depot or other outlets as well as online stores which sell a fairly wide variety of cameras, including pinhole cameras which could be best in situations where you do not wish to attract a lot of attention to your cameras.
Take your time and consider carefully all of your options, including having systems installed by professional alarm system companies. Using such services could be your best bet to make sure the system is properly installed and does not infringe on the privacy of neighbours.
