Stuck in A Rut?
Find yourself stuck in a rut that keeps you from breaking bad habits or working on new ones that will help you to achieve your goals.
Then remember what marketing and copy writing expert Bob Bly warns:
"A rut is just a grave without a cover." True eh ? Now really work at climbing out of that rut.
If you're like me it is easy to fall into that trap of just reading, and reading, and reading ,and .,.. about things you want to achieve.
But if you want to learn to swim at some point you have to put the book down and actually practice the strokes.
And that is true of everything. So if you've been reading about setting up some Internet or other business for years put the books down and put what you've learned into practice.
Climb out of that" just reading" rut. Protect your future with action.

To Coupon or Not to Coupon?
To coupon or not to coupon to protect your savings and make those dollars stretch a little more -- that is the question.
Many persons -- especially down in the U.S. where retailers are much more liberal and allow customers to "stack" coupons or use more than one coupon on an item -- go bonkers over coupons. And actually make it profitable.
Up here in Canada where retailers are more restrictive -- and where -- with the exception of a few stores Like London Drugs -- don't allow much "stacking" things are a little more restrictive.
You can succeed in saving money with coupons here too as well, but you have to plan things carefully to take into account how far you shave to drive to make use of the offers on coupons and whether you actually have any use for the discounted item, but with careful planning many Canadians do gain some good savings with coupons.
For more information on this topic read the article in the Tuesday Aug 7 edition of The Globe and Mail "Globe Life" section.
Here Preet Banerjee, W. Network Money Expert talks about how to succeed as a couponer -- even in Canada and includes some good coupons sites such as Grocery Alerts.ca
My wife insists couponing is the way to go and it is definitely worth looking into. "To coupon -- or not to coupon" -- is certainly something you have to consider carefully.

Is Your Smart Meter a Firebug?
Hydro companies such as BC Hydro and the Smart Meter people will still insist that the new digital smart meters are completely safe, but there are problems -- problems beyond the potential health risks.
The truth is that the smart meter installed or will be installed on your house soon could be a fire bug and could create a serious fire hazard for you.
For more information on this see the Vancouver Sun of August 27 or August 4, 2012. for an account of problems they have caused in other North American cities.

Critical Choices to Make
What choices would you make in a situation such as this?
A cyclist was travelling along a fairly isolated riverside trail one days when he noticed a hatchback vehicle with the back up parked at the end of a viewing point along the river, but there was nobody around.
As he farther West alongside this trail along the Fraser River in the Lower Mainland area of B.C. he encountered another cyclist whom he had never met before. The passing cyclist was obviously giving him the once over as he passed but neither nodded a greeting nor spoke.
The next day the cyclist met another person on the trail near the post where he had noticed the parked vehicle in the viewing area.
This man looked over his shoulder as the cyclist passed but like the other man on the mountain bike the previous day neither smiled nor said anything.
After passing this man and reaching the viewing point this time there were two vehicles parked at the end of the viewing point with their batches open.
Two men were sitting nearby watching him as he approached and the smell of marijuna filled the air. Feeling uneasy about the situation the cyclist swung around as casually as possible and started going back West on this riverside trail -- only to encounter the man he had just passed who now standing beside the trail waiting for him to pass.
He did pass this man without incident but right after this encountered the cyclist he had met on the trail the day before, glaring at him as he passed by.
In the end nothing happened but our cyclist felt very uneasy about the situation and decided to:
Change his route?
Change the time of his outing?
Change both the time and the route?
Grab his vehicle and come back to where the men in the two vehicles were sitting and take pictures of them (from a safety distance ) with his cell phone camera in case he needed them later?
What would you do in a similar situation? In this case our cyclist did all three and says that he normally mixes up the times and routes of outings on this semi-isolated river trail on a regular basis anyway.
So far he has never met this particularly group again but says he does meet some very suspicious people along this route on a regular basis.

Single Words Can Make Big Difference
It can be critical. A single word when reading anything for information can make a big difference.
Take the case of evolution for example. This theory is usually presented and accepted as fact, but when you read carefully you come across some interesting words.
In the most recent article I have seen the story says something like: "Rise of Rocky Mountains ... have cause evolution of dinosaur."
Do your know what the missing word was? Yes! It was "may" yet if you did not read that carefully you might have gotten the idea that scientists have proven that the rise of the Rock Mountains resulted in the evolution of a new species of dinosaur because that rise created an isolated inland sea.
This, of course, is exactly what the writer, and perhaps scientists involved want you to think. Actually they have proven nothing of the kind.
These kinds of word games are used in other kinds of writing too -- so be careful how you analyze what is presented to you by imminent scientists, politicians, religious leaders or business people.
