Will Your Smoke Detector Kill You?

Your smoke detector could kill you if it doesn't work and according to one survey  one in four Canadian homes does not work.

A recent example of the  likely fatal outcome in a fire  is a story by CTV Global  News account  on the Wednesday August 16, evening news of the death of a man and his young son because of a faulty smoke detector.

By the time Montreal firemen reached their home both of them had died from the smoke and fumes --caused by a kitchen fire.

To avoid becoming another victim  now is a good time to make sure your fire alarm system , whether it has a smoke or heat detector is working (I'm off the the store right to get some more batteries to bring our backs to life.) and also to check your fire extinguisher to make sure it is fully charged and working properly before winter returns.

Taking it for granted that either of these two pieces of equipment are working is a habit that is easily to fall into but it could be deadly for you and your family.

Cut That Sugar!

Nearly everybody knows that too much salt can be deadly -- causing not only high blood pressure but also a host of other health problems -- but what about sugar?

According to Dr. Oz it too can create havoc with your blood pressure as well as your liver and other organs in your body.

Tune into the Dr. Oz show today,  August 16, 2011 or check out his web site on the Internet to listen to or read  his dire warnings about the over consumption of this popular sweetener -- which, like salt, is widely used.

"Throw it out!" Dr. Oz warns and don't  rely on many of the sugar substitutes which create their own hazards in your body. Natural honey and maple syrup  are your best bets.

You'll find Dr. Oz's  web page at: www.doctoroz.com. From there you can find information about his daily television show.  Why not check it out?

Protect Yourself from Failure

Here are three  tips on how to protect yourself from failure -- although at first they might seem contradictory!.

The first is a quote from  Thomas Watson, founder of IBM who said: "If you want to succeed double your failure rate."

And yet another one -- this one from John Keats reminds us: "Failure is in a sense the highway to success, in as much as every discovery of what is false leads us to seek earnestly after what is true, and every fresh experience points out some form of error which we shall afterward carefully avoid."

The third  is from Lewis Lehr, former Chairman 3M Corporation. He said: " If you don't have failure, you aren't doing it; And if you aren't doing, you can't have success."

If you would like more ideas on this type of thing check out Head Strong How to Get Physically and Mentally Fit by Tony Buzan, who collected  these  quotes in his book.

It is really an interesting and motivating book published by the Thorsons division of Harper Collins.

If You Want to Live Take a Look at These Two

If you want to live and remain healthy  take a look at these two sites.

The first is scottmumby@wellness.com. It is a promotion for his new e-book it is true but in this book  A World Without Antibiotics  he claims that the world is about to be swept by  bacteria such as NDM-1
and another super pneumonia out of India which has already reached 35 of the American States.

According  to Keith Scott Mumby MD. Ph.D. the cures to these are relatively simple ---if you know what they are.

the other site is the NHD  Health Watch which often comes out with timely warnings and steps you can take to protect your health from things the mainstream media do not tell you about.

The current one is about metal hip replacement surgery, which apparently thousands have people have undergone in the hope it would end their suffering.

It turns out, however, that the metal replacements are disintegrating somewhat leaving metal fragments in some patients.

Wouldn't hurt to check both of these sites out.

Protect Yourself When Working On Your Next Project With Others

Protect yourself from frustration when working on your next project with others by remembering -- and putting into practice -- the ideas in this quote by Edmund Burke 18th- Century British Stateman as quoted in The Leader's Digest by Jim Clemmer:

He said: " No men can act with effect who do not act in concert; no men can act in concert who do not act with confidence; no men can act in confidence who are not bound together with common opinions, common affections and common interests."

We have seen recently how American leaders from both the Republican and Democratic parties achieve in this is finding some measure of success to the American debt crises. Hopefully they will continue to do this.

This, of course, is the road to success in all human activities from the family level right on up to the national and international levels.

It would be good for all of us to keep this in mind and -- practice -- this principles in our family, social, and business activities more often.

Think Positively

You have probably heard this many times and wondered whether this type of thing really works.

It does!  It help my wife recover from as weakened immune system caused by doctor-prescribed drugs. And it can help you recover from a variety of health problems such as cancer (a fireman we met survived cancer after his doctors wrote him off as dead by doing this) and other ailments such as heart  disease and depression.
