Your smoke detector could kill you if it doesn't work and according to one survey one in four Canadian homes does not work.
A recent example of the likely fatal outcome in a fire is a story by CTV Global News account on the Wednesday August 16, evening news of the death of a man and his young son because of a faulty smoke detector.
By the time Montreal firemen reached their home both of them had died from the smoke and fumes --caused by a kitchen fire.
To avoid becoming another victim now is a good time to make sure your fire alarm system , whether it has a smoke or heat detector is working (I'm off the the store right to get some more batteries to bring our backs to life.) and also to check your fire extinguisher to make sure it is fully charged and working properly before winter returns.
Taking it for granted that either of these two pieces of equipment are working is a habit that is easily to fall into but it could be deadly for you and your family.
