Have you ever wondered how you and other members of your family sleeping on the second or third floor of your home would escape if the lower floor or floors were suddenly engulfed in flame in the middle of the night?
Do you have a working fire and or smoke alarm?
Do you have something handy that would help you to punch out the glass windows quickly and safely?
Do you have some type of fire extinguisher -- fully charged -- that would help you to extinguish flames burning around exits like doorways or windows?
Do you have some type of ladder you could hook over the window sill and escape?
Are you wife and children trained in the use of such equipment. Are you sure? Could they use this emergency equipment to save their lives if you were not around to help them? When was the last time you had some type of drill?
Colder weather is coming and so is the increased risk to your family and house from fire. Don't take safety for granted because nothing ever happens. Remember, emergencies, like that unsuspecting earthquake along the eastern seaboard of the United States recently, can strike "just like that thief in the night".
